There Is A Serious Threat To Environment From Marine Pollution

Ocean water covers over two-thirds of the planet’s surface. The health of our ecosystem depends heavily on ocean water. Oceans are vital to humanity for a variety of reasons beyond ecological preservation, including trade, industry, tourism, adventure, commerce, and food.

Humans have begun to use the waters in a variety of ways, with varying degrees of success. The ocean has unfortunately become a highly damaging place to dispose of trash on a massive scale because of human activity. As a result, marine life is in a dire state.

By damaging marine life, humans have affected the ecosystem, which is an integral aspect of nature. We are polluting the oceans with a wide range of pollutants, including industrial waste, agricultural runoff, oil spills, ocean mining, etc.

There are a wide variety of sea creatures and aquatic plants that are harmed by marine pollution. Water creatures are suffering from a wide range of illnesses as a result of an imbalance in the ecosystem.

What Kinds Of Pollutants Cause Pollution In The Ocean?

Industrialization & agricultural activities have led to a rise in marine pollution, which may also be called ocean pollution. It is not only harmful to the aquatic world, but to humans as well. Some examples of marine contamination are :

Pollution Of The Oceans By Toxins

As a result of numerous poisons building up in the seas, one of the most severe forms of marine pollution occurs: toxins. Various toxins, such as DDT and Furan, do not dissolve or fragment in water, posing a threat to marine life. Radioactive waste and pesticides, such as PCBs and TBTs, also pose a threat.

Eutrophication Pollution From The Sea

It has an impact on animal reproduction. In the context of eutrophication, excessive chemical nutrients (particularly nitrates and phosphates) in water are referred to as nutrient pollution. Inhabitable conditions for marine life are created when water quality is deteriorated and oxygen levels are reduced.

Plastic Pollution In The Ocean

Plastic pollution in the seas has reached crisis proportions as a result of the exponential rise in its use. As the world’s population grows, so does the amount of plastic being thrown into the seas. The marine ecology is under danger because of the damage caused by plastic waste dumps.

Acidification Pollution From The Sea

A second way that the oceans contribute to environmental health is by removing carbon dioxide from the air. As a result of the high levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, seas throughout the world are becoming more acidic. Ocean acidification has a direct impact on marine life.
